Goshen Dry River Bed
I was driving home when suddenly out my passenger window I caught a glimpse of a very textured river bed full of cracks. I immediately pulled into the shoulder and slammed on my brakes. Having been in this area before I knew a Milky Way shot would work so returning with my camera was a given.
Weeks later I found the terrain even better with deep 1-foot cracks with lots of character. Fighting some minor city light pollution I captured this final Milky Way core of the season as it rested on the horizon. Really going to miss seeing the galactic core for the next several months.

Lost in the splendor of Goblin Valley
After I found this composition and placed my tripod, I went back to the car to grab my light painting gear. It took us 30 minutes to find this spot again when it should have been a 5 minute walk!
It is easy to literally get lost out here and once the Milky Way is up and you are standing among the hundreds of Goblin Valley Hoodoos bathed in starlight, you are emotionally lost and awestruck staring up at the sky without any regard for time.
I captured the Milky Way frame first and then we light painted each section of Hoodoos individually. It took 7 images to get this final shot. Next time I am out here I am going to take more care to have a lower ISO and higher aperture to get an even sharper capture of the Hoodoos.

Hoodoo City Lights
Hoodoo City is a sweet little gem in Zion National Park that we never would have found if it wasn't for a blog post on ImprovePhotography.com. What this picture doesn't bring justice to is the really interesting terrain surrounding this hoodoo.
The area is all on top of a giant rock outcropping in the middle of forested land at the north western tip of Zion National Park just passed Kolob Terrace Road. The ground is flaky layers of sandstone widespread to the size of a football field. An easy less than a mile hike from the road and suddenly you are in a terrain as foreign as any other planet would be. Just an awesome place to stay the night!
